Two were YVRYYZ and two YVRHKG.

Fair enough, and I think that 5 hours YVRYYZ (even in Y) is a totally different experience than 11 hours to HKG. The same goes for 6.5 hours YULCDG (taking us back off topic for a second), however on that particular route there is either a similar product at a lower price (TS) or in my opinion a slightly better product also at a lower price (AF).
My retired parents who travel for leisure are actively avoiding YULCDG, though it was previously something they looked forward to, preferring to route YOW-YYZ-CDG for almost the same price on AC or use the Ottawa bus+flight combo on AF.
