I have been considering this problem for several months now. It is getting more and more difficult to get that size on board. It appears to me that only the Rimowa Cabin IATA will go on board, and I believe that is one inch smaller than the one you have. Also, for us it has become a real issue of weight--not more than 15 pounds. ABSOLUTELY unless you want to pay extra. I believe that in the IATAA model you can remove one or both of those compaction container things. Then you can pack using the little packing cubes and save some weight that way. But in reading about the new airplanes coming out of Boeing and Airbus you will more and more frequently be confronting the issue of fit. The 22 inch will not go in vertically and if you have to lay it sidewise then you have taken the space allocated for another pax and that is a no no! I am sorry I don't have any real RIMOWA experience to offer you--just many hours of research on the internet about this subject.
