Thanks for the input. I've decided to go with AA on MIA-ELH.
Silver has two daily flights from FLL and this is what I used last year. But now that they are not under UA and *A anymore, I see no point in getting out of my way and paying more to fly through FLL.
Unfortunately I have no Avios to burn.
And will save my EB points for a more worthy trip later on.
So my first option is paid eco tickets with Swiss CPH-ZRH-MIA and then AA for MIA-ELH. We are two couples travelling with infants (1 and 2 year olds) so having *A gold status will at least give us priority boarding and lounge access, though our connecting times are almost perfect.
However I've just quoted the same trip on single ticket with AA. Travelling time is comparable but I'd connect in LHR and fly a couple of segments with BA. It would be about 600dkr cheaper per family with the safety of having it all in one ticket in case something goes wrong with a connection (especially worried about ELH as I've had funny experiences there). We have no status nor do we collect miles with OW.
AF via CDG would be comparable to my first option, though both my wife and I have just lost status with them.
I personally prefer to pay a bit more to fly Swiss via ZRH, collect miles and benefit from gold status. I suppose most of you would agree?
