The only time I got a trip in vain with UA, I got a refund of the entire ticket. However, that was after emailing customer service (refunds department wanted to refund only the unflown portion).
PQD, I have no idea. I would not be surprised if they credit you zero.
I returned home today. About an hour ago UA emailed me a new eticket itinerary and receipt showing the rerouted flights. The dollar amount shown is exactly what I paid for the original, longer itinerary even though the (new) flight routing is different and shorter. So I'm assuming UA thinks everything is square: I paid the original amount and they flew me... somewhere. I have a bad feeling that straightening this out over the coming weeks is going to be a chore.
