Dream on.

I have had to book YYC-YVR-LHR in order to either get a Z fare or R on a Latitude pass. More than once and quite a bit in advance. Includes a trip next month. Z for myself, AE reward for my wife.

Of course the hardest is YYC-FRA. And no YVR-FRA unfortunately so the YYC flight also gets folks out of YVR.
