Looks like clearing customs/immigration efficiently is the least of our worries now.
That flight was an absolute mess! I got off the plane when we got back to the gate after two hours of going nowhere, and glad I did. The UC staff were awesome. Both Speedis1 and myself were able to just cancel the DXB flights from our itinerary at the 4 hour delay mark and go back to our origin cities. UA provided us hotels and meal vouchers since it was obvious we would misconnect on the return at that point. Checking this morning I saw that the flight eventually canceled even after swapping aircraft, around 2a (I think?).
When I checked in this morning for my return back home, the agent said that UA was scrambling to deal with the DXB/DOH flight as both directions were full. She was very friendly and apologetic about the whole thing. Now, I've got to fight UA for my mileage credit to US. This should be interesting...
