It's crazy.........earlier in the year I had been so excited to have this trip finally arrive and now I'm stressed about our vacation - It is just so far away and it is hard to guage what is actually going on or what is going to happen. At the end of the day as long as the airport is open and we can get to / from Hua Hin I will be a very happy camper indeed!!!!!
IME in protest situation on 22 dec 2013 westin and fourpoint are OK for stay and also include sheraton grand and aloft direct access from bts to sheraton grand and direct access to robinson(westin) without any problem
and fourpoint at sukumvit15 is easy to access not far from westin if at your time in BKK and situation at the same of this day you can enjoy walk at protest area (rajprasong to prathumwan) they sell many souvenir and street food like thai temple festival
I don't have experience of Red shirt mob but my friend have both experience and compare with this situation is very peaceful mob and Red shirt mob is frightening
About mob : depend on your time at that place if in daytime there is not crowded and more abundant come at evening
