Whether en-route stopovers are permitted on revenue tickets (and, if so, at what cost) depends on the rules of the particular fare used.
An alternative to booking a stopover at MIA is to book an open-jaw ticket, flying into MCO (perhaps with a JFK stopover), and out of MIA. Use a one-way car rental (or Amtrak) to get from Orlando to Miami.
