I have to pay my US credit cards every month via my US bank account with my salary earned in South America, and paid to my bank in Chile. I have found that Western Union is a much less expensive than bank-to-bank transfers, as both banks charge for the wire. Even with WU's poor exchange rates, for USD1k - USD 2k, the fees are much lower. Of course, you have the inconvenience of having to go to a WU location to get the money.

I've done this from Chile, Peru, and Colombia. YMMV, but it's worth checking out if it's going to be an on-going process.
