Thanks for your advice. However I'm getting to the stage where this is becoming more effort than it's worth.
This is the 21st Century. The internet is here to stay. If American can't keep their website up & running (over a week and the error message is still displaying) then it's a pretty poor show.
I filled in the web form LBJ kindly directed me to. I've had a reply. They don't recognise my number. Fine, except the number quoted in their email is not the one I gave them. I decided at this point to open a new account since the old one was inaccessible. Tried a different email. American's website refused as it was a duplicate. Their computer clearly recognised my name - why couldn't the person who answered my webform type just my name in and get my details?
I love the internet for dealing with all sorts of issues. I have a minor speech defect so speaking with someone who has a poor grasp of English (as happened when I first phoned American) is difficult.
So my only option is to work out time differences and call someone in another country to just solve a very simple problem. Hmm.
The very first flight I ever took was with American, LGW-DFW-LAX. That was 32 years ago and everything had to be dealt with by phone then. Some things never change?
Sorry that this has turned into a rant. Many apologies.
