I am normally upgraded on Award tickets as a DM. The last award trip was over Xmas to Quito and I was upgraded on 3 of 4 flights. The only one I missed was the SLC-ATL on the Saturday before Xmas, so not sure I would have been upgraded on a paid ticket either.
