I've reached the SMH stage reading this thread. Allow me one more comment before I go back on my merry way.
Those of you expecting the SkyClub to offer amenities such as a full-service restaurant, please tell me you're kidding. I have been flying DAL regularly for 25 years. In the early days, that Crown Room was nothing more than an extension of my office during layovers. I don't race to the airport early to suck down a free cocktail, as some of you may. And as an extension of my office, where I used to fax documents (old times) and the like, call my office, etc., in other words -- WORK -- I didn't expect to see children. The club was populated primarily with people just like me. And it was worth the money.
Now, it seems parents with their large broods, strollers, diaper bags, and the whole merry mess they tote along are demanding equal access to this club that is designed for the business traveler.
SkyClubs are simply overcrowded and are not worth the price of admission. DAL is trying to reduce overcrowding and return these clubs to their originally designed mission. This is NOT a money grab. If it were, they'd lower the price of entry. Instead, many of us who spend much of our lives in airports and airplanes have complained about the issue, and the airline is acting.
Those of you balking about paying $695 so you can bring your six-month-old in, please stay in the terminal. That's the whole point of this move. Too much of a good thing is not such a good thing. It's about time Delta did something about it. Or risk losing the very customer upon which it most relies to operate a profitable carrier.
I'm done. Safe travels.
