Hello all I have Chase UR points and AA miles and just wanted to bounce this idea off some experts here. I am going to Europe this summer from WAS. I plan on doing coach on the way there since the flight is shorter and buiness on the way back. Now I know Air Berlin does not charge for fuel surcharges so I would be booking DCA-JFK-TXL-WAW on AB in Coach then I am going to transfer my UR points to use for Korean SkyPass for AF. The fuel surcharges are $260 which is steep but since the outbound will be minimal I can handle it. What I like about the KE is you can do stopovers even on one way awards. So my way back would be WAW-STR (stopover)-IAD (Destination) on Air France Business Class. So I will have 4 flights total in business WAW-CDG-STR-CDG-IAD for half of the business ticket which is just 40K. What does everyone think of this maneuver?
Most people prefer business going over because it's the night flight, and the big difference is in ability to sleep. Also, WAW-CDG-STR-CDG in business isn't going to be super exciting (most intra-European busines sis not). But sounds like a fun trip.
