I agree. Even if they did three for the Delta Am Ex Reserve and five guest passes for the individual/diamond membership they wouldn't be out much and would be a nice gesture.
I am thinking Am Ex use to provide a different reimbursement to Delta if the cardholder was guesting in people than if the only the cardholder was entering the SC and is now only giving delta $x per Swipe regardless of the number of people that come in. Seeing American is no longer giving access to non-branded Am Ex Platinum holders, I also think that Am Ex is reducing what they are paying airline lounges on card swipes. If that is the case it makes sense for Delta to charge a fee for guests on an am ex swipe if they aren't getting any addition money from Am Ex.
For the Platinum Am Ex cardholders it makes sense to make this announcement now seeing American announced that even an individual can't get in for free now to the Admirals Club.
I am sure United and American will follow Delta and change their guesting policies soon as well just like United downgraded their alcohol shortly after Delta and Delta increased their change fee shortly after United did.
