I dont know what the book says, but does it include advising passengers whats happening? An announcement by flight crew I would think would be very reassuring? There were no reports of this happening?

Navigate
Communicate
Administrate
I am sure most passengers would like the pilots to concentrate on safely landing the aircraft rather than be told that there is a problem in which a passenger is unable to do anything to resolve.
