My opinion is, assuming that is you only carry-on that you are providing a service to other passengers by allowing them at least some extra room in the overhead.
Part of Delta's marketing for getting status is a chance to board early and find space for you carry-on.
If it fits in the sizer, it should go in the overhead.
No guilty feeling required.
