There is no way that the demand for one-way hires from Albany to Perth is ever going to come remotely near that of the opposite direction. So they have to charge a fee, in state with the highest labour costs in one of the world's most expensive countries.
Yes, this shows why Albany isn't even listed on the above sites, it's a tiny tiny city. I've decided to drive roundtrip instead of deal with the drop off fee, although I was able to find a more reasonable one way fee of ($300AUD) via Avis. Still the rental was >$1,000USD for 1 week, where the rtrp is less than $300USD. So... drive em home I shall
Although I did notice that one way fees remain the norm here - Perth City to Perth Airport has a $25AUD drop fee (Hertz). Australia sure does love their drop fees!!!
