Last year when flying out of T3 my bag didn’t even make it out of the X-Ray machine as they had spotted something. The man stared at the screen, summoned his supervisor who stared at the screen. They then closed the belt to other people, took my passport and boarding pass and summoned a member of the police as well as the duty manager who both proceeded to interrogate me asking what “unusual” electrical items I had in my hand luggage. I listed everything I could remember and then finally mentioned my.....electric toothbrush. They had another look and decided that might be feasible and allowed the bag out of the X-ray machine and found the offending object. This took about twenty minutes and I was feeling very uncomfortable but they thanked me for being so patient and sent me on my way.
However, at the other end of the scale after a day trip to Turin, when I got home I emptied the contents of my hand luggage on to the bed only to find an 8-inch long thin screwdriver that I had forgotten about. This had passed through the security of both LGW and Turin!
