Last month, while connecting in Düsseldorf (outward journey) my cabin bag was pulled aside for a hand search. I didn't think anything of it at the time.
On the return journey, I checked in the same bag, just for my own convenience. When I got home, I opened it to find a Berlin airport form basically informing me that my bag had been subject to an extra search but nothing had been confiscated. The only think that sprang to mind was *maybe* my prescription meds looked suspicious.
Last week, I went through LCY, (hand baggage again) and my bag got pulled aside, again. The security person was looking at an x-ray image for something very specific. And then she pulled it out: my metal ipad stand!
She said the long flat tapered shape looks v.suspicious on an x ray. and suggested I take it out with my ipad next time.
So, on the outward journey from AMS, that's what I did. I packed the ipad stand in the see-through bag with my liquids (Muji bags still work in AMS

) and pointed it out to the security person. She thanked me for taking out of my things.
