I am one of those in agreement.
However, for 15,000 Aeroplan points and FYF*, it's worth to get it and then cancel next year.
*The only issue is to have to go to a branch in person to check if the person receiving you will be willing to waive the fee. It's an unadvertised promotion as I understand it.
