There is a service fee of $29.95/month but I keep a minimum balance in the account.
Or you can choose not to keep the balance in the account, or pay the $30 a month, but rather when the statement renewal date comes, open that account for a month. When the renewal is passed, you can close the account. During that month, can even ask the branch to waive the fee for that month.
More than a year ago when TD called me and tried to get me to open a first class visa, they offered to waive the select services account for 2 months, so that I get the fee waiver. After the 2 months was up, I cancelled the select services account.
When my 1st class visa card was up for renewal I did not renew. But they then tried to get my wife to go for the same 1st class visa, same thing, they offered to set up the select services account and waive the fee for my wife. So my wife also got the 1st class with fee waived. Of course after that month my wife cancelled the select services account. So td people also know how to get around the rules, and when they want you to have their card, they'll help you.
