Not knocking the ME carriers, but there is a lot more to premium travel than choice of food (however I am lead to believe that BA also provide a choice in Y) and the IFE.
Leisure or (self-employed?) business travel?

I am also a paid J traveller (best classified as leisure travel). I don't think paid premium leisure travel would justify even a fraction of the F/J seats out there.

As for food/IFE, I think it's more of a concern with leisure Y pax. What are the three things every negative skytrax Y review will b---- about? Seats, food, and IFE. Unless I am mistaken, EK has come out with statements to the effect that their Y class strategy is to offer (relatively speaking) superior food and IFE. Judging by the reputation they have, it works.
