One of the problems is the wish for a 'one size fits all' bag. I own about 8 bags at any given time. Backpacks, travel packs, wheeled suitcase, you name it. For every trip there is an optimum choice. Clearly, no one bag suits every need.

I often travel with a 29L backpack as I mentioned in my first response here armiductor. I always have to check it as I always carry at least one item (Swiss army knife) that I cannot carry on.

Too bad that Matt has not returned to tell us what he thinks of all these suggestions. Why people post and then never bother to return and at least acknowledge that they have read the responses always annoys me.
