Delta at ORD is imho extremely chaotic while MDW is a much easier airport to navigate. However, in case of delays you would have substantially more options getting out of O'Hare than out of Midway which I think justifies the additional travel.

As for a plane, the E-175 is small but perfectly pleasant for a 90 minute flight.
