GRR-ATL-AMS-HKG works and can be booked all as Delta codeshare flights.
But, you do get stuck with a 3-4 hour connection in AMS on the way to HKG.
Probably not much better than the other options (on DL).
Since Boston has limited service to Asia (except for the recent JL nonstop to Tokyo); I would often look at eastbound alternatives. (BOS-LHR-PVG, BOS-AMS-PVG etc.)
Unfortunately, the prices are almost always higher; since my observation has been that highly discounted business class is usually not available going to Asia via eastbound connections.
