I generally fly from Manchester instead as there is a direct train (as in you don't have to change). Manchester also has a Exec lounge. Did try Newcastle once but that was right phaff taking suitcases on the Metro.
The lounge in Newcastle is better and I'm not biased! LBA also has a lounge, it's called Yorkshire Premier although it's a contract lounge it's not bad

I agree though that MAN is the easiest to get to from York and also has the best frequency of flights.

Only issue is access to LGW since MAN-LGW flights ceased, NCL-LGW is currently a Flybe codeshare but Flybe are quitting that route. If the SNP hadn't scrapped this plan then EDI would have been a viable option from so many places on the east coast, but the thought of getting off a train and lugging cases onto a tram (are they ready yet?) doesn't sound fun to me!
