I prefer we all leave our passports in bombay and not carry it along in Goa...
Most critical thing for anyone in any foreign country is NOT to lose passport.
Unfortunately, many countries, including may European ones it seems REQUIRE/EXPECT foreigners to produce passposrt on demand (even as a part of cursory random check by police at airport curb or train station).
What I have found out (in my limited experience of 30-40 countries) is that photocopy is usually sufficient.
So, strongly advice that you DO carry colored photocopies of all important pages (not just the first few and last one but also that include your visa and/or entry stamp)
