Sounds like this is not going to be fun. If I went to the consulate in Vancouver upon arrival, could I explain the situation there and get some sort of temporary travel document allowing me to fly back home? I don't know if such a thing even exists. I could bring various documentation (birth certificate, color copy of passport ID page, driver's license, etc). I suppose another other option is to go to the Indian consulate in person and see about getting the passport back
