Unfortunately, I already hung up. The rep was very nice about it. And I did try to talk her into pushing through the upgrades. But no. In the pre-merger days if this happened to a 1K on United, they would have made an exception and either honored the mistake pricing or pushed through the upgrade so we could at least sit together. Instead all I was offered was to change flights and they'd be kind enough to waive the change fee. So if we were willing to go out at 3:00 on Friday they could get us with two seats together in coach - but we lose all of Friday.

I left UA for AA after the merger and my wife is still on UA, but losing patience. The reason I left is that I can't stand the lack of transparency. Whether it be upgrades or pricing - you never know what's going on behind the scenes. Now, we'll have to see after the merger, but AA is pricing FC reasonably. Which is fair. Make it reasonable, and if they can sell the FC cabin, then great for them (they figured they'd make more money selling 16 seats at $800, then only two at $3000 each). But if it doesn't sell out, at least I know as an EXP I'm first in line for an upgrade. They are starting to take offers for an upgrade, but that occurs only after all requested elite upgrades are processed. The way I understood it was supposed to work at UA (initially UA seemed to say the selling of upgrades to general members before processing elites was a "glitch"; not business as usual that it appears to be).

Bottom line, Jeff stole another $641/person as I took the $641 one-way upgrades. The "upgrades" + base cost of the ticket are more expensive then the $2k that I priced FC originally. Madding and makes no sense.
