I wanted to change the subject here about TTN; this is an issue that was being discussed over at Airliners.net by some of you, where I do not post (not that the $25 will break me, it's just I only have so much time to post). If someone can tell me how to start a new thread, I will....
The Frontier TTN #6 thread was talking about runway extensions. I think that is feasible (albeit expensive) for the longer 6/24 runway, particularly to the west, where I think it goes into state owned land (the penal work farm). A Google earth shot shows that 1,000-ft. could easily be done and not have to worry about obstructions on approach.
However, isn't there an engine that you can put on the A319, that when combined with sharklets or winglets, shortens the runway requirement? Denver is 1400 nm, which is less than half of the max range of the 319, so it certainly does not have to lift at MTOW.
By the way, DEN and SJU are the same distance by air from TTN, so a plane that could reach DEN could also reach Puerto Rico and the USVI (no customs issues). They can reach Nassau in the Bahamas now (940 nm) which has US Customs pre-clearance.
