Credit Card Double Charged
My father purchased an Air Canada ticket to Asia. His outbound travel was Jan 6, and his return flight was March 6. The ticket was purchased in December, and the correct charge showed up on his December VISA statement. The ticket was purchased through the same travel agent he has been using for 10 years. He was SuperElite until 2/28 of this year.
On my dad's February VISA statement, there was another charge from Air Canada of the exact same amount, dated middle of February. Since he did not purchase a ticket in February (he was away in Asia), he disputed the charge right away. We called my dad's travel agent, and they confirmed that no tickets were purchased from them around the middle of February. My dad refuses to touch a computer, so I know he did not buy a ticket online.
Fast forward to this week, VISA sent us a package saying that the investigated the charge with Air Canada, and determined that it was legit, and the amount in dispute will be charged back to my dad's credit card. This is what prompt me to post here to see what everyone thinks about this.
Exactly one year ago, I purchased an Air Canada ticket to Asia on a business trip. My credit card was charged twice as well, with two different ticket numbers. I disputed with AMEX, and AMEX already noticed the double charge and disputed it for me by the time I noticed the double charge. I am in the USA, and my ticket was purchased in the US; my dad's ticket was purchased in Canada, so the travel agency was not the common factor here. Air Canada was the common factor.
Has anyone else here been double charged by Air Canada on your credit card? Has anyone else disputed the charge and they came back claiming that the second charge was legitimate? Anyone has any suggestions on how we should proceed to dispute this charge?
We are sure no tickets of the exact same amount was purchased by my dad while he was in Asia. My dad's agent also confirmed that my dad did not purchase a second ticket of the exact same amount. VISA's evidence was that Air Canada provided a blurry copy of a credit card receipt with barely readable inprint and signature. No charge date was legible. My sister called Air Canada, but of course she got yelled at.
There is a reason why my dad decided to fly Air Canada much less last year. He is getting real close to never wanting to set foot on an Air Canada flight ever again. Any comments are welcome.
