I'm not RichardSF, but as someone who has a home in LA, I strongly urge you not to stay at this property as a base to explore LA.

It's not the property, per se, that is the problem; it is that you are nowhere near any of the typical great spots to see/visit/do in LA (with the exception of driving through the mountains to Malibu), and you are guaranteeing yourself myriad traffic headaches and nightmares.

I actually enjoy this property, when 3rd Nt Free available promos pop up, as an in-town "Staycation", but RichardSF is right when he calls it a "FS Lite".

Stay at the FS on Doheny, if you want a FS, which is an oasis of calm after being out in the bustle. Or, stay at any of a number of other luxury properties, so long as you're in the BH/SaMo area.

I, myself, prefer BH, unless you're specifically thinking of spending most/all of your time west of the 405 in SaMo, Venice, Marina, Manhattan Beach, etc).
