We've found hotels will often recognize special events in some way: Champagne, Wine, Chocolates, a better room upgrade etc. I never ask for anything for free (If I want it I'll pay for it) but I will ask something along the lines of "We are staying for (Insert special occasion here) do you have any recommendations for (insert activity\food here)?" If the hotel chooses to do something that's fantastic. If not we don't hold it against them
