Hi everyone!

First off, first time poster here so I am sorry in advance for any silly noob posting mistakes.

I'm struggling on how to best see if I can purchase a specific fare of economy ticket from LAX-FCO and use either and/or my 160k amex points (Amex PRG) and/or 145k United to upgrade to biz class (or higher). (open to any airline at this point in time). Been saving points away for this special trip. I've checked a number of airline web sites but I've had a hard time determining if the economy class ticket I'm about to purchase has mileage upgrades available?

The domestic carriers web sites seem to do better than the international/foreign ones in terms of this information but it doesn't look 100% clear to me unless I purchase. I looked at Alitalia (trying to ignore that post they may need more funding in the Alitalia forum here but they do fly direct and that web site didn't seem to do allow for this type of search?

Sorry for the long (and boring post) but would appreciate any tips in this manner.
