That is incorrect.

Co-Terminal is a very specific term used for fare construction only. Nothing more.

“Co-Terminal means specified cities which may be considered the same point for determination of journey type.” In other words, co-terminals are one or more relatively adjacent cities which for the purposes of fare construction are be considered the same point. e.g. BWI-WAS, FLL-MIA, OAK-SFO-SJC, LAX-ONT-BUR-LGB-SNA, NYC-EWR.
It has been reported on this forum that an AAdvantage member who is eligible to stand by (i.e., Gold or higher status) may stand by for a flight departing from a co-terminal. IIRC, the specific example was someone who was ticketed MIA-XXX who was permitted to stand by for FLL-XXX (or perhaps v.v.)
