Given the amazingly long queues of taxis waiting to pick up fares at MAD, I imagine that taxi drivers there dislike short trips.

If anyone is interested, the Novotel near the airport is very near the Campo de las Naciones metro stop - taking the metro from the airport might be a better bet than waiting for the hotel's shuttle.
