I have a 9 hour layover scheduled at PEK (7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) My wife definitely wants to see the GW, so I figure Mutianyu is our best bet given its proximity to the airport. I'm planning on hiring a private driver. Does it make sense to spend about an hour or so at the GW and try to visit the Forbidden City before being dropped off at the airport again? Or is that just too crazy? If we go with the combo plan, would it be a good idea to have the same driver take us to both places and back to the airport? Thanks.
