Are gate agents allowed at all to re-open the door? I understand they're not supposed to, but are they really not allowed to re-open it under any circumstances? Like lets say the GA, for whatever reason, closed the flight 20 min out, a pax arrives 2 minutes later, are both the GA and pax out of luck?
If the GA closes the door 20 min out they have violated policy and I, for one, would be totally livid and make enough of a scene to be put on the flight.
GAs have the ability and authority to reopen the door.
It happened to me once on UA (they though there was "no way" I would make the connection on a SEA-SFO-PHL in Y) and closed the door early. I arrived at T-17 and the agent refused to reopen the door and just walked away. I promptly took a video showing the airport clock and the gate and got enough people involved to get rebooked in F on the next SFO-EWR.
