This seems a little strange to me..

I thought fatigue/wear was more a CYCLES problem (Take off and landings)

Seems crazy to allow , say, a 737 to operate for 15 years at "Southwest" cycle rates.... but to ground a long haul a/c that has had a much "gentler" existence...
