The last I heard, Hotwire's finance department is going to take a look at my billing and will get back to me in about 4 days. Seems that they still have no clue whether I paid GST or not. But then, the total taxes and fees combined is about 20% of the supposed cost of the hotel. Go figure.
All this just to answer the question whether I paid GST on my reservation and if so, how I would go about getting it back.
If somehow they list/itemize this upfront when you make a reservation, I wouldn't be going through this with them.
The amount is small, but it's the principle. Fortunately it only costs me a few minutes of email time.
The money they made out of my booking doesn't even cover the human resources consumed in investigating this trivial problem though.
