And it doesn't even rhyme with Anstruther, which is not pronounced An-struth-er or Anstree.
Many place names in Scotland were derived from Gaelic, Scots, Norse, or from one or more of them, so the pronunciation is sometimes closer to the original than to how the English version looks. I'd be careful before implying to the local inhabitants that the accepted pronunciation is lazy.
