I got waitlisted for a J-F upgrade in November. The flight was in December. Upgrades never became available.
At check-in, they said they can't upgrade me on the second sector. I asked in the lounge and they said I might get an op-up. There must have been some no-shows, cause I never got that op-up. Didn't bother anymore on board.
At least you didn't have 9 hours of Y DUR-DXB even though there were 7 empty J seats on the plane that were not converted to D fares.
Apparently "Skysurfers can't upgrade on-board, even if they meet all the criteria."
