Anyone who is trying to let AC off the hook for the disaster last night and today at YYZ is completely clueless. As an earlier poster wrote, there were at least 1000 people in line and only four -- FOUR!!!!! -- AC agents working. And many of those pax, after waiting for hours on that line, were still given incorrect info. The only thing that prevented more bad behavior by pax was the fact that most of the pax were already too exhausted.
Now here's my story. I was on AC FRA-YYZ last night, scheduled to land at 7:40P. But due to strong head winds, we landed at 8:12P.
Because it had also started to snow, some aircraft that were in the gates did not push back. The pilot, to his credit, kept us informed every 20 minutes or so.
We were stuck on the tarmac for around four hours. And he even called the delay "outrageous."
But it gets worse. We finally get to the gate -- after waiting about 100 meters away the gate for about 30 minutes for snow removal. But there is NO AGENT! AC had plenty of time to get an agent there, but they managed to screw us further. The door to the plane did not open until 12:45A. That is just over five hours from when were were originally scheduled to land, and that delay cannot be blamed solely on the weather.
I had a 9:40P connection on AC to PHL, which I obviously didn't make. Turns out, I was rebooked on the 8:45AM AC YYZ-PHL flight. But I did not find that out until about 4:00A because OF COURSE AC didn't bother to meet connecting pax at our gate to help rebooking. And OF COURSE if you called the AC phone number, it was always busy. And OF COURSE the wireless at YYZ wasn't working correctly, so I couldn't use my favorite back-door trick -- use Skype to call another AC call center in say, Japan -- until about 4:00AM. That's how I found out that I was rebooked on the 8:45A flight.
Yet it still got worse.
The connection/baggage agent for U.S.-bound flights at YYZ told me that some of the flights that got to the gates after midnight still had not had the luggage offloaded, so he could not tell if my bags would make it to PHL with me.
And they didn't. Even though my FRA-YYZ flight got to the gate by around midnight, my bags still did not make it on my 8:45AM flight. That's inexcusable.
The level of ineptitude displayed by AC over the past 24 hours has been remarkable.
