The DFW & ORD flights however can be dicey. Though I've had decent luck on them (about 75% of the time).
I only missed two domestic segments last year, and one of them was AA 8 HNL-DFW. I never made it past 1 on the upgrade list. Since then I've always used SWUs or miles to guarantee the upgrade between DFW and HNL. It's a gamble, but you can win big if it pays off. ^
