Alternate airports, like ZFV, EWR, BWI, can be cheaper if they work for you, might be worthwhile to check before you commit. I'd use the miles before devaluation, although the devaluation for Hawaii isn't much. Also, note that the devaluation occurs on February 1, not in March.
I've used US miles for a Star award in May - I am hoping that what I book is what I want as I don't expect they will be changeable once the split happens.
