2 travellers - one on points, the other paying...

[Mod note: This thread/post moved from the flame-free Information Desk forum. Thanks for contributing respectful responses.]

I'm flying to Orlando (for a conference) from Toronto by Air Canada. We have enough Aeroplan points for my wife to get a return economy flight so that she can join me. What's the best way to ensure we are both able to book the same flight? I want to separate the bookings as I will be reimbursed for my paid flight.

I've gone through the Aeroplan booking process (for 2 people) without actually confirming to check that at least 2 spots are available. When I actually go ahead and book, I plan to book for one through Aeroplan and then book online for me on Air Canada's website.

Am I forgetting anything? Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks very much in advance for your thoughts.
