We missed a connection recently due to the transatlantic sector being late. BA put us on EI & BE same day (no other BA flights operated to our final destination that day). I had to phone them before we left the US to make it happen. If we had of just left it until we landed we would've been stuck in a huge queue at customer services and most likely have missed those flights too.
