There were quite a few people connecting on that flight and it wasn't pretty. I helped a family take their bags up to the BA desks and they had to leave their luggage behind in order to make the flight.
No, this was in the summer. In fact AA failed to load my bag and I had to wait in the baggage hall for over two hours until the next flight came in from ORD – then had to schlep the bag to the BA check-in counter. (Luckily I had several hours between connecting flights.)

It's good to see that the OP seems to have decided not to take the risk.
