Familiarity is probably the primary reason many select it. Sometimes during travel we want that, it's a comforting taste of the familiar - particularly to western tastes.
Additionally when suffering the associated tiredness with travel the burger is easy to eat (if not elegantly) - the meat has been ground up so there is no need to do too much chewing. You don't have to cut, just lift. It's the easy option, and filling with it.
It guess it is also an indulgent treat when away from the family - when out in a restaurant 'proper' the steak may be the perceived acceptable meat option, when solo why not try a juice burger with all the trimmings!

Most people who order it will not have read the opinions of others on here. They will just simply fancy a burger. Especially teenagers!
