What do you reckon is the reason for DC? At least NYC is a valid code for New York City Airports. They use IAH and ORD, neither of which abbreviate their respective cities. That really struck me as odd.
Perhaps UA secretly plans to de-hub IAD? More realistically, I'd imagine there are few amongst the general public who are aware of the IATA code for Dulles Airport.
Yeah, IAD is cryptic enough... but surely "WAS" wouldn't be too much of a mental stretch for people?
